Organizational MOTIVATION!

MoTiVaTiOn ThEOrIeS!!!

Is economic retribution enough to motivate employees?
I think that money is not enough to motivate employees, because even if it is important to satisfy much of the basic needs of people, workers need more effective mechanisms of motivation and that would make them more productive.

Leaders of an organization, additional of the economic retributions as a method of motivation should use methods such as:

- Promotion of communication with employees.
- Motivation through incentives to cooperation.
- Dedication of time
- Celebrating the successes and achievements.
- make a feedback of the process.
- among other

 MoTiVaTiON:
Is a process of arousing and sustaining goal directed behavior
Motivations and atribution someone has to be responsible stimulating the desire and energy.

Theories:
1. Internal: personal, yourself
2. Process: interaction between you and individual and environment.
3. External: in the environment.

When you need something it generates movement internally.
There are two motivations:
--> Intrinsic: internal needs (  is the exchange of an intangible for a product or service )
--> Extrinsic: external incentives ( the exchange of monetary currency for a product or service.)

An excellent way of showing how is the behavior between employee and manager!

DOUGLAS MCGREGOR
developed one of the best known motivational
theories, THEORY X AND Y

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kqrn14osJps&feature=related
Theory X !
- dislike work
-avoid responsabilities
- require security
Theory Y !
-view work as natural
- self directed
- seek responsibility

3 KINDS OF NEEDS:
1. ACHIEVEMENT: GOALS AND PERSISTENCE, MONEY IS NOT IMPORTANT.
2. POWER: DIFFERENT IN LIFE, IS DESTRUCTIVE BY MANIPULATING
3. AFILIATION: MAINTAIN CLOSE RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS.

QUESTION...
In multicultural organizational contexts what could be a good strategy to keep people motivated towards a common task?
Much more than the part of the remuneration, which is important is to publicize the achievements of teamwork, achieving goals and benefits for the company isprofessionally and personally to each of the collaborators. A favorable work environment. The participation of employees in the improvement of strategies that achieve efficiency in the workplace.

The Corporation!!!

MNCs A corporation that has its facilities and other assets in at least one country other than its home country. Such companies have offices and/or factories in different countries and usually have a centralized head office where they co-ordinate global management. Very large multinationals have budgets that exceed those of many small countries.
Four years ago, multinational players accounted for 36 percent of India's IT-ITES exports. By March 2005, global IT firms had come to account for 46 per cent of the country's IT-ITES exports. As Indian IT exports race towards $60 billion by 2010,will India's homegrown players lose the field to MNCs?In 2001-02, India's IT services exports stood at $6.2 billion. Out of this, the top five Indian IT firms, categorised by Nasscom as Tier-I players, accounted for 32 per cent. Tier-II players (companies with revenues between Rs 100 crore and Rs 1,000 crore) accounted for 35 per cent. MNC players constituted 27 per cent. The balance was made up by niche and small and medium companies. By the end of 2004-05, when India's IT services export revenues stood at $12 billion, MNCs had grown their market share to 36 per cent. This year, MNCs are pegged to corner more than 40 per cent of India's IT services export revenues.

SUMMARY OF " THE CORPORATION"
United States is the country where it is better to invest.
What is a corporation? is the way of owning a business, to achieve several objectives.
The birth of the modern corporation was born in the industrial age in 1712 (it was for public benefit)
externality: the effect of a transaction (the idea of let someone else take care of another) that is based on a comparison.

QUESTION
One of the criticisms in the movie is “without externalities, no manufacturing industry is sustainable”. Do you agree? What could be done in this phenomenon?
I agree because if you do not know half the things progress the industry will not work for example if a teenager likes computers and all q is evolving and no one knows that thisforward and how it changes your perception and knows no competition, the industry willdesapreciendo because the concept of externality is related to innovation.

Even if this video gives an example of transportation you might look at it, i liked her way of thinking in aspects of sustainability

Organizational Behavior...

I will start with some concepts of O.B (Organizational Behavior) :
- Deal with others.
- Study of individual behavior and group dynamics in organizations.

Set of Tools
--> allow people to understand and describe behavior in organizations.
--> allow managers to improve their behavior.

Levels:
Starts with individual processes, then group processes and ends in organizational processes.
If you see O.B as good things will be an opportunity and see some challenge ( exchange knowledge)
An environment makes you understand the behavior.  In behavior you observe, is critical because determines reaction to behavior.

Organizational Context:
There are two types the formal which is most visible and informal that is less visible.

Challenges of Change:

1. Crisis 2. demanding customers 3. merger or organization 4. new competitors 5. decreasing profit and sales.
Driving forceer creating and shaping change at work cause globalization to change.

The customer: is the result of organization who wants excellent service.

The quality:  cannot be optimized, not a short time , not an end in itself.
¿'
Total Quality Management (T.Q.M)
Total dedication to continuous improvement is the development of the system.
I remember when we were in class that you make big enfasis in this term, so I will attach a video really interesting made by Roger Groh which is a contacted in www.grohasset.com

Six Sigma :

Eliminates things out from organization that arent right. But a real explanation said in the book was a high performance system to execute business strategy that is customer driven, emphasizes quantitative decision making, and places a priority on saving money.
--> By looking around by this videos in you tube I learned more concepts of this class, they dictate very good methods of explaining things.

SIX ORGANIZATIONS NAMED IN THE BOOK
I will emphasize by giving some small datas from each one, information that I havent noticed from this organizations.
 Customers dont haggle for pricing

The site has over 200 million active users and is avaialable

Every Year the company donates millions of dollars to non-profits.
They do not use wood from devastated forests, child labor is unacceptable, and suppliers must have a responsible attituted toward the environment.

What began as a wireless email solution for enterprise clientes has evolved into a multifaceted and roubst wirelles platform that supports a wide range of communications, information and entertainment applications.

THE ORGANIZATION.......... AND CULTURE:
We might say that culture is always  being  influenced by how the organization cares in its decision makin, the way they communicate and their relationships.

There are many aspects of organizational in culture such as decision makin, it gives a better behavior to an employee

QUESTION
Why is managing organizational behavior in changing times challenging?
I will give kind of a personal response, in the past times each country had different producers and different or separate market, and is known that the component of each product will be manufactured in the country made and will be exported to foreign markets. Things have been changing for example in terms of ethnic, racial discrimination and gender has been different and for example by being progress in cooperation between managers and workers becomes important to knew century. It depends deeply in culture of any nation.
